Hardy Perfect Reels
First introduced in 1891, the Hardy “Perfect” was an excellent example of good
ideas and perfect design, far ahead of its time and competition. It had all the improvements fishermen had asked for years for. The Hardy Perfect was narrow and
had an adjustable click-check (drag), had ball-bearings, and a revolutionary ring line guard often made from agate. The Hardy Perfect doesn’t have a palming rim, but a spool face that can be pressed from the side. This is realized by the handle not being on the spool like at modern or other fly reels, but on the back face, that turns with the spool. Another advantage of this awesome invention is, that reserve spools are very flat and can easily be carried in the vest, maybe with a sink tip or other line.
Often called the best fly reel ever made, the final Perfect reels were produced in the Alnwick factory in the mid 1970’s.
Today the Hardy Perfect has been reborn again, made from modern materials and manufacturing expertise but with its timeless look. The agate line guard and the classic anodized grey finish make the Hardy Perfect to one of the most impressive fly reels available.
