Cortland Fly Reels are premium rods produced for the truly passionate fisherman. Cortland has catered to the dedicated, driven fisherman since 1915 and has worked to produce equipment capable of holding up to the needs of fly fishermen who take fly fishing very seriously. Cortland's original focus was to develop advanced braided lines specifically for fly fisherman, as the company's founder Ray Smith (a Cortland, NY native) was a clothing merchant with an eye for high-quality fibers and braiding. Cortland's lines and braiding techniques were so consistently high quality that their factories were tapped for the production of parachute and bomb line cords during WWII. While Cortland's primary focus continues to be on the highest quality lines (both braided and fly), they also produce reels of equally high quality, which are optimized to fit the capabilities of their superior fishing lines.
